Awarded a Green Apple Award for environmental good practice the sustainable refurbishment of the two-storey Annexe, a self-contained section of the school, includes new roofs tiled in recycled slate as well as external walls rendered, tiled or clad in larch boarding. A new fenestration system of solar treated glazing and a Brise Soleil are used to minimise solar heat gains and sun pipes to reduce lighting usage. Insulants such as Rockwool and Celotex are used to improve thermal efficiency in excess of Building Regulation requirements. Following completion a 57% carbon reduction has been achieved.
